The Potteries is famed for its ceramic sector and today much of the work is focused on ceramics research. Lucideon is a progressive company based in Stoke on Trent working in materials classification and testing, processing and computational techniques. The company also hosts the AMRICC Centre, a hub for businesses to seek technical support on their product development and commercialisation journeys.

Remarkable companies require remarkable products and in 2023 Lucideon specified a British Rema Minisplit for their low volume powder testing work. The enquiry arose after a member of the team used the machine on another job and thought it would be the ideal addition to the range of advanced ceramic processing equipment situated at the AMRICC centre.

Chris Thompson is a Ceramics Processing Consultant working at Lucideon and is not only pleased with the reliability and efficiency of the product for his own work, but also delighted that another key piece of equipment in the AMRICC centre enables industrial partners to access it for their own product development requirements;

“The Minisplit enables us to tailor a powder’s particle size distribution for a variety of applications, which is a great benefit for our testing needs. We also specified the Jet Mill attachment for the machine which has increased our powder size reduction capability too. These benefits are now on offer to the companies that use the AMRICC Centre which speeds up their own product development programmes.”

The machine was delivered and commissioned by a British Rema engineer who simultaneously delivered training to the Lucideon operatives;

“The training was very thorough and covered classroom training prior to expertly delivered hands-on training using actual materials. From quoting through to commissioning the unit, the service from British Rema was exceptional. The team is very responsive and delivered on everything they promised; a rare attribute. The machine is very robust and also easy to operate and has transformed our low volume capabilities.”

British Rema Minisplit

The Minisplit is a compact forced vortex air classifier with integrated feeder, classifier, collector and control panel. Encased in a mobile, castor mounted cabinet it provides a nimble, plug & play solution for low volume, small particle separation and processing.

One small unit, multiple benefits:

  • Very sharp cuts up to 1 micron
  • Feed rate of 1 to 75 kgs/hr
  • Control of mean particle size within 0.5 microns
  • Precise on-stream control of cut-point by variation of rotor speed
  • Adjustable secondary air system for optimisation of classification efficiency
  • Optional screw or vibrating tray feeders
  • Feed and product bin capacities to suit customer requirements
  • Inbuilt control system allows ‘on the fly’ changes to process parameters via the touchscreen HMI control panel
  • ‘Recipe save’ function enables machine parameters to be stored for replication of specific PSDs ensuring efficiency and ease of operation

Optimum versatility

The Minisplit can be supplied with interchangeable components for easy conversion to a Fluid Bed Jet Mill for the particle size reduction of a wide variety of materials. The simple conversion requires the substitution of the classifier coarse discharge cyclone with the Fluid bed jet mill chamber
